Trauma Healing at Quantum Psychology
At Quantum Psychology, we specialise in trauma therapy, utilising powerful techniques to help you access and process deep-seated emotional pain.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting works by engaging different parts of the brain to access and process trauma in a targeted and effective way. The method taps into the subcortical brain, which includes regions like the brain stem and limbic system, where trauma is often stored. These areas operate below conscious awareness, meaning they hold onto emotional and physical responses that can be difficult to access through traditional talk therapies, which primarily engage the thinking, or cortical, brain.
By using specific eye positions, Brainspotting helps bypass the thinking brain (neocortex) and directly access these deeper areas, allowing the body and brain to release trapped trauma and emotional pain. The therapist guides the client to a brainspot linked to the trauma, and the client’s focus on that spot activates the body’s natural healing processes, engaging the limbic system and brain stem where traumatic experiences are often lodged. This helps to process and release unresolved emotions that are tied to physical tension and distress.
The benefits of Brainspotting are significant. It allows for deeper healing of trauma without needing to fully verbalise or relive traumatic memories, making it more gentle for those who may dissociate or feel overwhelmed in other therapies. It also helps regulate the nervous system, reduce emotional reactivity, and improve overall well-being by integrating both emotional and physical healing. Since it works directly with the brain’s natural ability to heal, Brainspotting often leads to faster results, helping individuals move through trauma and emotional blockages with greater ease.

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) focuses on healing trauma by working with the brain’s natural processing of shock, tension, and emotional defenses. It begins by addressing the first sequence of a traumatic event, where the body moves from a state of tension to shock. This initial shock is often deeply ingrained in the brain stem, triggering protective defenses like dissociation to block out overwhelming feelings. DBR helps by guiding individuals through this early sequence of events, starting from the moment their system registered the shock.
In many traditional therapies, people who have dissociated might find it difficult to access and release these early moments of trauma, as their bodies automatically shut down or disconnect. DBR, however, specifically works with these defenses, allowing the body to slowly move through the sequence of tension, shock, defense, and then affect (emotion). By doing so, the person can safely experience and process the trauma in a contained way. This approach enables the body to release the physical and emotional imprints from the initial shock, which often remain “stuck” in the nervous system. By addressing the trauma at its root, DBR helps to resolve dissociation, leading to a more integrated and embodied healing process.
